Riley Dobbs Special
« on: 11 November 2020, 02:26:13 pm »
Hi everyone,
I am looking at starting building ck, I have found a picture of a 1930s f1 car but I can’t find the manufacturer or model, I’ll post a picture if anyone has any ideas. Please let me know if this would be a suitable choice.

I doubt I would ever find dimensions for this project so I would proportion it from the Ct 16/17” wheels and base the chassis on Stevenson classic.

Also plan on using kart parts where possible, so welcome any advice, the car would be a mix of plywood, steel and ali. At the moment would like advice on front track width also in relation to the front wheels ( Honda ct) what size bearings are fitted as kart stub axles are 25mm or 17mm this would help as I’m starting to source bits.

Thanks, Stuart

That could be a great car, it looks more like a one off than any  recognize.
Front track should be 1000 mm. Go with about 68" to 66" wheelbase. (sorry about the mixed dimensions!)
Stub axles for bearing availability with the 17" wheels, use 17 mm

Thanks Rhys.
I have been drawing It out full size on some Mdf I’ll keep a log and try and post pictures as we go.

Your inspiration is a Riley Dobbs Special.

I'm going to move this thread across to the Build Journals area - just in case you're wandering what's happened ;)

That looks like a brilliant car to base a cyclekart on! front axles for cyclekarts are being sold by gemini karts and so far I dont think anyone has had issues with them so far and they set the front track.

Stuart, You might like to have a look at this thread:  http://www.cyclekartsgb.com/what-is-a-cyclekart/useful-dimensions/msg3114/#msg3114.  The Stevenson template will help you make sure that you'll fit into the CK and is a useful reference point.

With apologies to those who've seen it multiple times, I've attached my tabulation of bearing sizes for the type of wheels we use.
