Title: Builders Meeting. Coventry Transport Museum. Saturday February 1st 2020.
Post by: Graham Hill on 26 November 2019, 09:56:08 pm
Hi all.
I'm hoping that this proposal will provide a mid-winter excuse to get together as a group.
I am still waiting for feedback from the museum on availability of a side-room or private area where we can schedule time in the day for a useful meeting.
I'll ask here for items for inclusion on an agenda beforehand.
Further details in due course, but pencil the date in for now please.

Since I can't get there I can at least offer the log book page I knocked up after it was suggested at Stretton.

If it's OK with others I will draft up something for discussion which will closely align to motorsport practice.

Can we have a chat about other venues and events that would be in keeping with the Cyclekart thing. For example the retro festival in Newbury. I took my dragster there a couple of years ago and it was a really good weekend.

Yes Jim, that's a definite, we need to look at all new venue options.
I will collate a formal agenda for comment as promised.

By way of an update on Coventry, I have negotiated us the use of a school teaching-pod for the day and paid a 60 fee. This will get us all in the museum for free, normally 14 I think. I'll work out a contribution from everybody on the day.

Hi all. I am collating requested discussion topics for inclusion on a informal agenda. So far:

Brakes
Wheels and Spokes
Scutineering
Log Books
Venues for 2020

It will be also good to have an update on what stage individual's new builds have reached. Any other topics please advise, its a guide only.

I see we have a few new members recently, please come along and meet up if you are able.

I'll confirm how we meet in due course. As stated, don't buy a ticket as I have arranged group concessionary access for the day.

Hi Graham,

I was wondering if anyone has had thoughts about display boards to use when our cars might be on show? Possibly add to the agenda?

Chris.......

I will be there for definite.
My workshop is in Hinckley, about ten miles away and if anybody would like to come and see how far I have got with the 1906 GP Renault after the Museum meet, they would be most welcome.
I'll bring photos anyway.

Thanks for the invitation Adrian.  We'll come if we can as I'm really interested to see your CK - will just depend on what the journey home afterwards is looking like.

If anybody going to the meeting is planning on doing any fibreglassing, I have a fresh 5 kg bottle that needs a new home. I bought 2 when I was rebuilding the Buckler, sold that so there's one going spare, cheaper than I paid from East Coast.

The museum is open at 10.00am. I aim to be there at the opening and will probably grab a coffee in the cafe before entering the museum itself. The cafe is just inside the museum entrance and is open to the public and so a good place to meet.
Parking is not straightforward as the museum does not have a designated car park, however there are pay and display options close by, see this link. https://www.transport-museum.com/visiting/getting_here_parking.aspx

At the admission point if you advise them that you are with the 'CycleKart Club' our entry should be free and you will be directed to our 'teaching pod' that is allocated to us for the day, so it will not matter if you arrive a little later.
Any problems on the day my mobile is 07954 816 204

Rhys provided me with info for a log book, which I've worked into tabulations in A5 size, I've attached the results for discussion at the meeting.

I will be bringing a pit bike wheel from Gemini with me on Saturday for review/discussion.
It would be interesting if others have something to bring for a "show and tell".

Does anybody wish me to bring any of the things I have mentioned as surplus to requirements? Resin,  wheels, etc?

Apparently not Chris, between us we might have made pairs, but no reaction!

Ok, ok I'll react...if we could end up with at least a pair I would be interested...just don't know where I'm going to store them. Well, I do, in the observatory, but that'll mean I can't use the scopes!!!
So if you two gent wouldn't mind turning up with what you've got or wait till the next meeting!
Re Adrian, yes please to a look at your CK/Renault would be most interested...and sry I didn't reply earlier.

Having looked at parking and such, I think it will be easier if I bring them to Stretton in May.

It was great to see everyone at the museum today and catch up with people I have met before and meet the people I haven't. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day with lots of jokes and interesting facts as we wandered around the exhibits. I'm now looking forward to April the 26th. Nice one Graham for organising it.

Very constructive meeting, thanks to Mr Hill for putting this in place and all who contributed. If you didn't attend, you missed a good day. Massive thanks to Adrian Gosling for the after match function, if you missed that, shame on you :)
