Ive been teaching my grandson to weld and was looking around for a go kart type project, ending up here in a roundabout way.
Ive scratch built 4 hotrods and a drag race car as well as several green power cars during my 30 years teaching what was metalwork, now design, engineering and computing so I sort of know what I'm doing but still a "jack of all trades" I have welder, plasma cutter, mill and lathe and a big roll of chopped strand mat so fairly self-sufficient.
So, currently gaining some CycleKarts knowledge via forums and gathering up some parts, front wheels only so far . Our plan is build a chassis and get it running , then sort out a body, I'm currently favouring a Maserati 8CT that made a great impression on me some years ago, simply the most gorgeous shape ever, but quite complex to reproduce.
Im hoping to get to your next meet in October and have a chat, ask questions and pick brains.
Current plan for chassis is 3X1" channel, coil over front suspension and a peerless diff, but then I've just seen Adrians post on limited slip free wheel !

Welcome.   We’re hoping to join the Grimsthorpe Speed Trials next year so that’ll be right on your doorstep.

Please ask if you have any questions and do start a build journal to share your progress.

What a cracking choice of car.
Its one that might test your skills with the shot bag and tig welder.
I hope to get my diff done next week. Got to get the axle threaded yet. (new posting done today)
See you soon
