I have the chance of an engine the same as the one in the Morgan, 125cc, auto transmission, probably 7.5Hp (certainly no more than the 10Hp limit). It'll be easier to fit in my next project than a GX200, and it's on offer new locally at £50, as he bought a short case when he needed a long case.

So the question is will it be acceptable, or do I need to stick to the GX200?

Well Chris, if you are looking for a poll, my vote is it's fine. I think it still falls within the guidelines on this site and I personally like to see some variation and innovation. Just make sure you add that missing wheel this time. 😁

Oh yes it'll have a full compliment of wheels, Rhys and Tony know what I'm planning, it's a bit tight in terms of height, but not length. I think I'll probably go for it anyway, It'll come for another project if not this one, assuming it's still available.

In hindsight there would be complications both with connecting the drive, and sorting the ratios. An auto 110cc quad bike engine on the other hand might be an option.

This is an interesting topic. I am imagineering my next CK and wondered about this but first, is there a 10hp limit? Tweaking the Honda (and copies) can produce considerably more.
I understand were not about racing as such but I want my next one to be 'competitive' at our Stretton meetings. My 'Renault' is going to be both too heavy and too tall for that.

I’m interested in seeing other engines purely for the engineering aspects.

If someone turns up with a stupidly powerful engine then a) I suspect they’ll get bored very quickly,  b) we’ll all mumble our disapproval, possibly even cough to indicate that we think it’s not cricket, and c) in all probability we’ll gather round to get a look because we won’t be able to stop ourselves.

I wonder what other engines would be suitable?
Perhaps, the constraints we need to establish could be included in the front of our little 'A guide to safety in Cyclekart design and construction' booklet mentioned in the Brakes topic?

I like the GX200, it's easy to get a hold of, cheep, easy to work on, has plenty of little tweaks available at little cost, and gives a nice easy approach to creating a level playing field.
And I don't beleive anyone has yet felt the need to push to full stage 1 mods yet? Or have they?
However, oh for the smooth running of a small twin, the thump, thump, thump rattles me fillings something awful! :-)
