Making a cyclekart road legal in the UK
« on: 27 August 2020, 10:04:47 am »
Hi gents,

I’m still doing lots of research prior to taking the plunge to build a cyclekart, but in my research I got thinking about making a cyclekart road legal. I have skimmed over the MSVA regs for light and heavy quadrcycles and haven’t seen anything that says you can’t yet.
Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t want to go far, but they could be fun around town. Max weight 350kg, speed 28mph, engine size 50cc. Could be fun...

You can go up to 149cc and still be in the moped category for tax. Geoff May has put his Wolseley through SVA, and registered it. Build journal here:http://www.cyclekartsgb.com/build-journals/wolseley-hornet-cyclekart/msg1071/#msg1071

Aye it can be more than 50cc as long as it's less than 5kw roughly, although a heavy quad test gives you a more generous 15kw limit.
Just read actually 4kw max continuous so would be something like a gx120 or a restricted gx160-200
