Your Club NEEDS YOU!!

A number of our events are run under a permit issued by NORA. We are affiliated to NORA and this brings us under their insurance policy cover for public liability at those events. For these events, every driver must be a member of CKGB and hold a competition licence from NORA. It’s a great way for us to get insurance and the required permits, because it grows with the club and we have negotiated a good price.

For each NORA event, we need a non-participating Clerk of the Course (CoC), who has overall responsibility for the general conduct and control of the event in accordance with the regulations, programme and organising permit for that event. To support our programme of events, we need more club members to take on this role and spread the load.

Here’s what we’re thinking:

  • A number of members attend the online CoC training from NORA. This is about 2 hours long and will make you a NORA licenced CoC for cyclekartsGB.  We need 8-10 people to do this.

  • For each NORA permitted event, we’d like to have a CoC and a Deputy.  The CoC can’t drive while on duty, but they can if they hand over to a licensed deputy.

  • Our aim is that no-one needs to do the role more than once a year.  Of course, if someone wants to do more, then that really helps the club. If you are in the process of building yours, it is a great way to start getting involved in events and the fun.

As CoC you need to:

  • Liaise with the person organising the event so it is planned in a way that’s compliant with the regulations

  • Go through a checklist beforehand

  • Make sure everyone is signed in and licensed correctly (someone will help with this)

  • Brief the marshals and drivers

  • Keep an eye on the event so it runs according to the programme and regulations

  • Manage any incidents

  • Fill out a short report form at the end of the event and help get all the paperwork sent to NORA.

The CoC, is not responsible for all the booking and organising of an event, just making sure it’s run according to the plan and regs. The CoC also has the support of NORA and all signed-on officials are covered by insurance.

NORA will be running training for us at some point in the next few weeks.  If you would like to support the club by attending the training, please send Jim an email (ckgbmembership@gmail.com) and we’ll send out details of the training as soon as the date is confirmed.

By doing the training, you’re not committed to any events. We’ll ask people to volunteer for specific events separately. You might only want to do the deputy CoC role, or perhaps ease into things by being deputy before taking on the head CoC role at some point in the future - all of these will help your club.

Please help your club grow by sharing in this task.

First Aid

We also need qualified First Aiders, so if anyone knows someone who is qualified and fancies coming along to an event throughout the year we would love to hear from them.

Thanks
