Title: Whilton mill kart track practice days.
Post by: jim on 06 February 2020, 07:00:28 am
I spoke to a chap called Dan at Whilton mill circuit which is between Northampton and Daventry. He said we would be very welcome to come and use the circuit.  They have weekday practice sessions from 10 till 4. If we had enough people go, we would likely get the track all day to ourselves. A le mans style endurance practice could be fun. cost would be 50quid each for the whole day. Tuesdays and Thursdays are probably the best days. It is a great circuit with good facilities. If we can get some ideas of numbers that would be interested we can then book a date. Check out their website and hopefully we can sort something out.

Sounds good to me,
Having had a look at their website the track looks fun.
Re Tues or Thurs, out of the two Thursdays are preferred for me but not essential.

Week days are difficult for me, but sufficient notice might be able to take annual leave.

Have they suggested which of the several tracks could be used? I like the lack of "stuff" beside the track :)

They haven't said which track but I have been there a few years ago and I can't remember any really tight bends. There is plenty of grass run off.

I have spoken to Whilton Mill today and have booked a practice afternoon 1pm to 4pm for Thursday 26th March. They have something already on in the morning. The cost will only be £25 and it's quite likely we will have the track to ourselves. Probably best to arrive before 12 to sign in and get ready ect. Hopefully this suits everyone, the weather will be good and we don't all have corona.  ;)

Thanks again to Jim for organising this. I've added it to the events calendar as a firm meeting. At present it looks as though proposing to attend are:

Jim
Graham A
Graham H
Bill
Chris S
Rhys (maybe!)
Stefan (maybe!)

That's great, any others yet to confirm please do so to support Jim. (I am dying to see that Dodge!)

I have just looked at the whilton mill website and at the moment they are still open for practice on Thursday. The bistro is closed and they are asking for people to pit at a social distance type of thing. I am in two minds whether or not it would be a good idea to go or not.

Hi Jim. I personally have decided not to attend due to having vulnerable family members. Sorry, I would have liked to support the effort you have put into organising this event, but these are very unusual times.
If others can similarly advise their intentions on this thread it will help Jim make a decision.

I was still intending to come, but following yesterdays announcement I would not be surprised if they have to close?

Thanks Graham and Chris, very unusual times indeed. Staying safe seems to be the phrase this year. Whilton is very easy to book again when this catastrophe is over so don't anybody feel guilty if they don't feel up for it.

OK, just checked and so far at least, it is only indoor leisure centres that are included in the ban.

So, as things stand today, if it's going ahead, I'll be there.

Hi Jim  As I am in the very vulnerable category I sadly won't be able to attend Whilton Mill. I was looking forward to seeing the venue. If it's on please take some pics and post them. Hope your new CK goes well and you all have a great day.   I was hoping to have my CK there, like yours it would have been it's Maiden Voyage.  Graham A.

Sorry, but I cannot believe that our group thinks it's OK to go ahead with this. I could say more, but won't.

24 hours is a long time these days and I have come to the decision that it would not be a good idea to come. So I hope we get another opportunity later in the year.

Thanks for the replies everyone, it makes sense to cancel this and I will contact the track tomorrow. Hopefully we'll be able to get out in our karts in the near future. Blooming typical, I got mine running today and bench tested the drive train.

The Track is currently only open to members but with restrictions being lifted for outdoor activities next week hopefully we can get a date to put forward to the club. I am really looking forward to getting my cyclekart on a track and catching up with everyone.

50 / 50 on this one boys, like you all I am itching to get some time in the karts but feel we should wait a little longer until people have their stuff in order.

Hi Jim, let me know how you get on. I spoke to Daniel at Whilton last week and he suggested they would be too busy to let us on the track for an exclusive session. Cheers.
