Donington Historic Festival, May 2026
After having much fun at Oulton Park last year sliding around the drift track, MSV, the operators of Oulton Park and several other racetracks, extended our invitation to the Donington Historic Festival.
We were lucky enough to have the Melbourne loop on the main circuit to set a track on, and this added to the atmosphere of this glorious and historic venue for our CycleKarts.
The weekend started with driving on Friday and we went through to Sunday afternoon with over 4000 laps of our circuit recorded.
With 35 Cyclekarts in attendance across the weekend we were a sight to see parading through the paddocks twice a day to and from the track and this created a lot of interest for our track activities.
Pit walks happened at least twice a day where the visiting public had access to our show and many positive conversations were had with people from all over the globe.
During the event, we had a visit from the CEO of MSV, Jonathan Palmer, Who walked around our pits and interacted with several of our members. We must have made an impression on him as he asked if any of our members were willing to build him a Mercedes 125 and an Auto Union type C and gave us his business card. The two cars he requested are historic to Donington when they hosted the 1937 Grand Prix.
Our members took time out to see the events on the main track and a walk through the paddocks was a must for anyone with an interest in machines of our era, some outstanding examples of pre-war cars were on display.
Our CKGB exclusive campsite was in a wooded glade just outside the track gate and an Ideal spot for socialising and merriment. Two big birthdays were celebrated.
A big thank you to all who organised and took part in this weekend which was memorable in many pleasant ways.
Donington have provisionally asked us to return next year. Bring it on!
Enjoy the photos
